Bio-Fueling Dreams
The International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) is a premiere student competition showcasing biosynthetic projects from around the world. The iGEM competition encourages student researchers to work in teams and attempt to solve real-world challenges by building genetically engineered biological systems. Each iGEM team works throughout the summer to develop their own project. Our inaugural iGEM team aimed to improve the use of algae as a renewable energy source known as biofuel, winning us a bronze medal. Now that we have gotten our feet wet, we will be aiming for gold. This October we will present the results of our research at the Giant Jamboree in Boston along with 300 other teams from around the world. Help give us the opportunity to present our research in Boston this fall. Your support will help us pay for conference fees and travel costs.
